At least one person is dead and 10 others were injured when a van drove into a group of worshippers outside a London mosque early Monday in what police are investigating as a potential terrorist incident.
The driver of the man, aged 48, was detained by members of the public at the scene and then arrested by police in connection with the incident, authorities said.
London police have declared the crash a major incident and closed the area to normal traffic.
The neighborhood has two mosques, and several hundred worshippers would have been in the area after attending prayers as part of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
Lonon Mayor Sadiq Khan decried the incident as a "horrific terrorist attack."
